The large brass ensemble - five trumpets, three flugelhorns and five trombones - has been Hans Koller's favourite project for years. Already in the mid seventies his “Super Brass” band played successfully for a short time and in 1979 began the preparations for this recording, now under the more accurate though less superlative name of “The International Brass Company”, including artists from six different nations (Austria, Federal Republic of Germany, USA, Netherlands, Turkey' and Poland).
For these recordings, Hans Koller has created an impressive and characteristic sound with powerful tutti and much space for inspired collective and solo improvisations. “Der Turm der blauen Pferde“, the cubistic masterpiece of Franc Marc inspired Hans Koller for his composition “The Horses”, a suite in four movements. One of the best soprano solos bv Hans Koller which he ever recorded is featured in the third movpment (WHITE).
The ballad NORMA JEAN is dedicated to Marilvn Monroe and C. M. is a tribute to the late great jazz musician and composer Charles Mingus.
