Christoph Schnietterer was born in Vienna on May 22nd 1978.
He majored in history and law there. Currently he is working as an assistant professor at the law faculty of the University of Vienna.
Christoph Schmetterer started taking cello lessons at the age of eight. Not until he was nineteen did he start playing the piano and composing. In the meantime the piano has become his preferred instrument. He has appeared several times at the West Coast Ragtime Festival in Sacramento and at the Györ Jazz Nap. Apart from that, he . plays the organ at mass every Sunday in the small village of Wildungsmauer near Vienna. Last but not least he is the second conductor of the wind band of Bruck an der Leitha where he also plays the second trombone.
Christoph Schmetterer has been composing since 1997. His first works were rags and up to this day ragtime has remained in the centre of his compositions. Apart from that he composes dances, marches and sacred music. He writes not only for the piano but also for chamber music groups, for salon orchestras, for wind bands and for choirs.
